Cletus Kasady, also known as Carnage, is a Marvel Comics supervillain and an enemy of Spider-Man. After Carnage escaped from a maximum security prison, a life of crime and villainy ensued.
In an event known as “Maximum Carnage,” Cletus Kasady was a serial killer condemned to the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane. Following a skirmish with Spider-Man, Venom symbiote – the Symbiote that had previously taken over Eddie Brock – was left weakened and vulnerable.
Cletus was able to bond with the Venom symbiote, becoming the horrifying villain Carnage: a creature even more malevolent and powerful than the original Venom symbiote.

This in turn grants him powers such as superhuman speed, flight, and the ability to fire powerful blasts of energy, known as “Carnagized Energy Blasts”.

Carnage first appeared when the “elite symbiotic force” known as Venom bonded with Cletus Kasady, a serial killer and a patient residing at Ravencroft Institute. The “elite symbiotic force” consisted of the surviving spawn of the alien symbiote known as Venom, which had formed a symbiotic relationship with Spider-Man prior to bonding with Kasady.
The alien symbiote seeks to bond with an individual host who it perceives to be enhanced enough to survive a union with it, resulting in a powerful and dangerous being. When Kasady encountered the Venom symbiote, he unknowingly helped to release and free it from the control of its master, who goes by the name of Venom.
The Venom symbiote sensed a special connection to its host, something that it had never experienced before with its previous hosts which allowed the powerful being to develop a bond. This then allowed the young symbiote to take over Kasady’s body, transforming him into Carnage.
Is Carnage Venom’s Son?

The missing symbiote was eventually discovered by serial killer Cletus Kasady, who had been prisoners at Ryker’s Island at the time. While he was in his cell, Cletus was merged with the symbiote and became the ultra-violent Carnage.

He is eventually bonded to the soldier Patrick Mulligan, their shared morality allows the two of them to coexist in a symbiotic fashion. In later issues, Patrick Mulligan is able to separate himself from the symbiote, retaining some of Toxin’s powers while wearing a suit.
