COVID-19’s Unwanted Arrival

Since the proposal, Dana and Sean had planned the perfect wedding. Everything was going smoothly until March of last year when COVID-19 hit. A global pandemic can definitely change things. Being essential workers, Dana and Sean had little to no time to prepare for their big day. On top of that, Dana was a student during the summer semester. Their days consisted of sleep, work, and school. There were hard times that came, and they honestly considered postponing.

Read about their day in their own words…

Q1: Tell us about your wedding!

A1: Initially we were going for a modern rustic vibe. But when I met Leeanne at Luxe & Lovely Events, we came up with our own style “HQ” kind of like “GQ” men’s style. The H is the first letter of Dana’s last name and Q is the first letter of Sean’s last name. Our hashtag was #HQWedding. There were 3 important parts of our wedding, our Christian Louboutin shoes (red bottoms,) our gorgeous custom cake by Baked by Dan on the Food Network and our custom made Champagne Wall. Everything else was planned around that. Bright red roses and sunflowers. Red dresses for the girls and red bow ties for the guys to coordinate with the red bottoms. Dana had a custom vest made with the red backing to match as well. We had a unity candle ceremony which was a very special moment with our mothers.

Q2: Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?

A2: The decor & design was all lead by our wonderful Wedding Planner, Leeanne! She out did herself with taking our requests and adding her special touch in every detail! Some things Leeanne & her team created:1. Florals for the chairs on the inside of the Aisle2. Metal sign with the letters B A R filled with fresh flowers3. All custom signage4. Several sanitizing stations set up throughout the venue5. Created our centerpieces & enhanced all of our linens. 6. Our couples table-WOW 7. And many, many other details. Our Champagne was custom made and a wedding gift from our friends. Our wedding favors were custom printed masks which made a perfect gift when you have a wedding in the middle of a pandemic! They were white with HQ Wedding and our wedding date.

Q3: What were the florals like in your wedding?

A3: Our florals were simple. Bright red roses and sunflowers. Bright red roses to match our red bottoms & color of the ladies in the wedding party and Yellow sunflowers as a symbol of love & happiness.

Q4: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
A4: Dana worked hand in hand with our DJ Sean to coordinate songs the wedding party walked down the aisle to and the song he would walk down the aisle to. Of course they were instrumentals of Taylor Swift! Some of our favorite parts were walking down the aisle seeing all of our family and friends there to celebrate us! Being on the dance floor without a care in the world. And our sparkler send off was pretty spectacular! Let’s talk food! Dana has a background in the culinary industry so our food played an important role in our special day. Every person raved about the food! The venue was also flexible in allowing us to make small menu changes & additions to make the day extra special! Anna, the venue coordinator/owner made sure we were well fed and always had a drink in our hand. Another sweet moment, we had our loved ones who have passed away, in the front row of our ceremony.

Q5: Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
A5: First came the red bottoms. We bought these first and designed our look around them. Raul, who works at the Suit Supply in Philadelphia, styled us. We had so much fun that day and were so happy with the results! Dana had a custom vest made with the red backing to match the red bottoms, red roses and the girls dresses! As a gift from our wedding planner Leeanne, she had custom handkerchief’s made with Taylor Swift lyrics. (Dana LOVES Taylor Swift) We had fresh shaves for us plus all of the guy in our wedding party! Thank you Ruth! The fabulous Gianna Schroeder was responsible for all of the hair and glam! She took care of both of our mothers & all of the women in the wedding party! And last but not least, she cut, colored and styled Dana’s hair! She is amazing!! Check her out on Instagram: Gianna.Marie.Beauty

Q6: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
A6: We met on Facebook in 2009. Sean sought out Dana on one of his Facebook posts. We met up for a swim date and the rest is history.
Sean planned a surprise proposal in a pumpkin patch in Delaware. Sean invited Dana’s parents to be a part of this special day. As they were picking pumpkins, Sean wrote “Marry Me” on one of the pumpkins and put the ring on the pumpkin. When Dana wandered over, Sean asked: “Which pumpkin do you like best?” Sean got down on one knee and proposed.

Q7: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
A7: Dana’s moment – When I was walking up to Sean during our first look. His back was towards me but I could see him smiling ear to ear. It gave me butterflies. He turned around to see me and the love in his eyes was unforgettable.
Sean’s moment –
As Dana walked down the aisle with his mom & the part of the mother/son dance when all four of us danced together. Those were my favorite moments.

Q8: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
A8: Enjoy it and laugh while doing it. There is nothing that needs to get in your way of having what you both want when it comes to your special day.
And if your budget allows you, hire Leeanne at Luxe & Lovely Events!
