Holly and Kelsey share how they met and what they did to make their wedding day safe for their wedding guests.

Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day?

Our day ended up looking a lot differently than we had originally planned. Our original vision was a weekend at a summer camp in New Hampshire, complete with a softball game, costume contest, and more. While we still plan to make our original vision come to life someday, COVID altered these plans and changed our day into an extremely intimate celebration on Holly’s grandfather’s property. However, this ended up being just what we never knew we wanted. It allowed a very special ceremony while still keeping everyone as safe as possible.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?

We knew we wanted a very natural theme and jewel tone color palette. This included a lot of greenery and wood elements. Our ceremony was on top of a hill on a nature preserve so we let the beautiful surroundings speak for themselves. Our reception was in a small tent illuminated with string lights and a few tables run with greenery.

Did you personalize the day in any way? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

Because this was during COVID, Holly’s mom did as much as she could to make the day as safe for everyone as possible. This included individual buckets for everyone that contained personalized masks, personalized hand sanitizers, and all silverware and glassware that they would need for the evening. She also gave each table a bag of blank rainbow Jenga pieces to write well wishes to the couple on.

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look?

Holly went to Vows Bridal to shop for her wedding dress. She landed on a dress completely different than what she had anticipated. It was the Maisie dress by WTOO by Watters and included a tight bodice with a sweetheart neckline and full flowing skirt. She completed the look with a simple veil and two shoe choices! LLBean boots for the ceremony in the snow and high top Converse for the reception. Kelsey knew that she wanted a vest with suit pants. She paired a grey tweed vest with a white button down shirt, floral tie, navy suit pants, and brown dress shoes.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

Kelsey and Holly met on the lesbian dating app HER. Their first date consisted of dinner and mini golf, where Kelsey got four hole-in-ones and really sealed the deal. When Kelsey and Holly met, Kelsey’s dad had already been fighting lung cancer. We both decided that we wanted our families to meet while Kelsey’s dad could still accept visitors. So our families got together for a big barbecue. At the barbecue our friend (and videographer for Jess Sinatra Photography) Mike, pretended to take a group photo but was actually filming the proposal. It was the perfect moment surrounded by family.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

One of the most special moments of our day was when Holly showed Kelsey a video of her late father sending good wishes for the couple on their wedding day. This was a surprise to Kelsey and was an extremely emotional moment. Holly and Kelsey were also greatly anticipating the vows the couple had written for each other.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

If we learned anything from getting married during a global Pandemic, it’s don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t panic if your vision changes during the process. It will all turn out alright and the most important thing is that you get to marry your significant other!
