Our story began on September 19, 2012 and our hearts each whispered,” that’s the one”. If only life were only that simple. Actually, our story really began on February 5, 2012 with an innocent Facebook message. It was through those communications that we learned we were both psychotherapists, that we had the same graduate alma mater, and that Anitra was…unavailable. So, we lost touch.
Fast forward seven months later and as John Lennon says, “there’s nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.” Courtney started a new job at United Healthcare and low and behold, who did she run into…you guessed it…Anitra. We reconnected, fell in love, and lived happily ever after. Yea…not quite. Anitra was still as unavailable in September as she was in February. So, they figured at the very least they’d each gained a new friend.
But the Universe had something else in mind. We continued chatting every day and got to know each other. We realized we had a lot in common, but we also had a lot of differences. If there was ever a tale of opposites attract…it was us. Courtney is a Gemini and Anitra is a Virgo. Courtney is outspoken, extraverted, and opinionated. Anitra is reserved, introverted, and easy going. It was NEVER going to work. Nevertheless, we kept talking. We fell in love. And on September 30, 2013, we changed our Facebook statuses from “single” to “in a relationship.” And we lived happily ever after. Umm…not just yet.
We gave love a try for a couple of years with many highs and just as many bumps along the way. Maybe it was bad timing or unresolved things from past relationships, that led to us not quite getting it right the first time and ultimately parting ways for a year. However, we reconnected September 2016 and have been inseparable ever since. Most people don’t believe in second chances, but we knew our story wasn’t over and decided to give it another try and the rest as they say is history. On March 10, 2019, we got engaged in our favorite vacation spot, Cancun.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
We recommend researching the costs of weddings in the area of interest based on the size/style/type of wedding you are seeking. Come up with a budget that is manageable for the couple and try to stay within this budget when hiring vendors and planning your big day. We strongly recommend you hire a wedding planner if you can afford to do so. It is also important to get quotes from multiple vendors and shop around to ensure you are getting the best deal. Last but not least try to stay present in the moment and enjoy the process and of course enjoy your special day. Remember at the end of the day it’s about you and your future spouse. Everyone will have an opinion about what you should do, but ultimately your wedding should be about “you”.
