Tell us about your wedding!

The wedding was a dream come true! It was a vintage chic and a mix with our authenticity. We incorporated soft colors (lavenders and blues) for an original wedding that was planned fall 2020 but moved to spring 2022. One tradition that we kept throughout this time was jumping the broom. That represents are leap into faith and love.

Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?

Sure was! One of the things that was important to us was our person touch. We handmade table numbers and guest whiskey bottle seating chart. Additionally, we added our own framed engagement pictures as well as books from home and empty bottles from the bar. We wanted to incorporate “Words & Whiskey” as our love languages.

What were the florals like in your wedding?

Michaela Moran, floral artist (owner of Days of May Florals) helped us make our fairy tale come true. Customized floral headband for the bride as well as soft blush pattern decorations for lighting. There was also a beautiful sweetheart table that made us blush.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)?

We absolutely had a food truck! Pizza! We knew that our guests would need a late night snack after our celebration, so Dizzy Cow Pizzeria (Baltimore) took care of that. It was much appreciated at the end of the night. Entertainment was provided by DC’s finest, Shawn Diggs ( DJ MIXXED), and photo booth magic by Mr. Shuttersworth.

Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

Cassie’s attire was inspired by Bridgeton (Netflix series). She was going for “Black royalty” and nailed it. Her custom suit was hand made, BeSpoke style from top to bottom by DC’s Brian Alexander. The icing on the cake was the custom pendant Cassie wore to show royalty.Ashley’s wedding dress was purchased from Anna’s Bridal from Alexandria, Virginia. The chosen dress gave the bride the perfect vintage look that she was aiming for.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

We met while Cassie was bartending on a November night in 2014. We didn’t know that this was a planned set up until I arrived. We hit it off, exchanged numbers and it’s been sealed since! Cassie proposed to me approximately 4 years later to the day we met at her bar. She also proposed to me in the exact seat I sat in when we first met. I was completely surprised! Everyone we loved was there and it was a great night.

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

The most anticipated moment for both was definitely walking simian the isle and seeing each other for the first time. Another moment was when we forfeited our parent dances to celebrate Mr. Brad and Ms. Malitta’s (Cassie’s sit in parents) 35th year anniversary. They were so surprised and it made us happy to celebrate them.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?

When others offer to help you, use it! There are so many details and so many things that pop up. Extra hands are so helpful. Also, be in the moment. Smile and feel all the love!
