The inspiration for our day was simple honestly. We wanted the day to reflect and showcase our love for one another. All we needed was each other and our closest friends and family. Our sisters, our 2 best friends, and Melanie’s parents. The small, intimate setting was more perfect than I could have imagined. After our small ceremony we arrived at the reception where we had the rest of our friends and family waiting to celebrate with us! Melanie wore a navy blue suit from the Groomsman Suit, bridesmaid’s dresses were from Azazi, and my dress was from Asos.

Decor was a collaboration between our friends and family. Everyone came together with different pieces and ideas. It was a group effort! Much like the whole wedding. We couldn’t have done it without our people.

We went with sunflowers and light blue hydrangeas to go with the navy blue in the bridesmaid’s dresses. We used the bridesmaid’s and Chelsey’s bouquets as the centerpieces at the reception. Over our 4 and a half year relationship, if Melanie got me flowers, it was ALWAYS sunflowers. So it was definitely a special part of the whole style of the day!

One of our favorite parts was having one of our very best friends officiate our ceremony. He has watched us grow, through good times and bad, over the past 5 years and we couldn’t think of anyone better to marry us.
Melanie’s brother in law and very talented cook did all of the food for guests at the reception. One of my favorite parts of the day has to be after the ceremony. Our photographer sent our bridal party to the reception and we had some time alone at the venue. Getting that time alone together and Milly getting some INCREDIBLE shots was such a fun and intimate experience. Our reception was something that I will never forget. Celebrating and dancing the night away with all of our favorite people is everything I could have wanted for my reception! Not to mention the neighbor’s dogs that got out and decided to crash the wedding. Afterwards we drove out to one of our favorite spots downtown with some of our girls for some delicious Chicago Cafe hot dogs!

We met in college, we were both in the band there and had mutual friends. It wasn’t until a few years later that we would develop a close friendship that unexpectedly turned into our perfect love story. When we were dating we would go by the river to McFarland Park. I knew for a long time I wanted to marry Chelsey, when I was trying to decide when and where to do it, it only seemed fitting to choose one of the first places we ever hung out. I took her to lunch that day, and played it off like we were meeting our best friend Kaitlyn by the river just to hang out. Little did Chelsey know, Kaitlyn was there to capture our special moment for us.

I was so nervous and anxious to see Chelsey for the first time! I had butterflies in my stomach as she walked up and stood behind me before turning to see each other face to face. Special moment would definitely be reading our personal vows to each other. We laughed and we cried. It was a very emotional moment that I’ll cherish and remember forever.

Mel: When our photographer led me out back behind the building where our ceremony was being held, as soon as I turned the corner I saw Melanie standing with her back to us in front of a beautiful ivy wall. That was the moment that everything became so real. Heart racing, almost couldn’t breathe. While we were alone, we read personal vows that we had written for each other and that is a moment that will be engraved in my mind forever.

Something that took a while for us to learn, but Milly helped us to understand, is that this is YOUR day. Don’t worry about pleasing anyone else. That day is about you and your partner, don’t spend it trying to make parents happy, friends, siblings. At the end of the day it is about your love and the memories that you make. If we had listened to everyone else, we would have gotten married in a big venue with way more people than we were comfortable with. But we went out own way and wound up with the perfect setting for the perfect wedding.

When trying to save money, the one thing that you do not want to cut corners on is your pictures. There are countless ways to save money on your wedding, but the pictures are something you will have to look back on and relive your wedding day. Get someone that knows what they are doing! North Alabama/Nashville area, I HIGHLY recommend The Rose Reflective Photography.

I know “never go to bed angry” is so cliche and over used. But it is pretty true! People think we never argue. But the truth is, we have our fair share of arguments like anyone else. The only difference is that we immediately recognize what went wrong and apologize. Don’t hold those trivial things over their head. Staying angry about something for days, weeks, or months isn’t worth it. Cherish every moment you have together.
