Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?

Scott: We met on a dating app called Scruff. Basically, you “woof” at men you think are good looking (perfect for all the dog lovers, LOL). Craig woofed at me first, so I messaged him back. It just so happened that I knew of Craig for years already. He has a big YouTube following as he makes comedy, improv, and impression videos. My family had been watching him for years and we have a bunch of inside jokes based on his videos. Since he lives in Chicago, IL and I live in Columbus, OH, we FaceTimed for about a month and we finally met for the first time in Columbus about a month after we started talking. We spent a great weekend together exploring the city and the rest is history. I would say we fell pretty hard for one another after the first time we met. It’s crazy how things happen. In my alternate reality while watching his videos growing up, “in my mind” I always thought we would get married one day… probably like many other guys and gals. It’s surreal that we are now engaged.

What makes your relationship special?

Craig: The things that make our relationship special are attributes I would hope every couple experiences: We continuously show our love and support for one another, display an infinite degree of patience and understanding, always find things that make us laugh, make the time to communicate whole-heartedly about our thoughts and feelings, and remember to always slow down and cherish our moments together.

Family and friends are our lives! We both value health and fitness and love to work out together. We both love to cook and share our family recipes. We love to travel and be outside. Last summer we visited Sedona, Arizona and have been dreaming about going back out West ever since.
We love watching television and reciting all of our favorite movie lines.

How did you know your partner was the one?

Scott: The biggest step in any relationship isn’t the first kiss…it’s the first fart. We were both lying on the couch one day and I asked Craig what he would do if I farted. Surprisingly, he turned to me and said, “I’d probably start laughing.” So without hesitation I farted and we both started laughing. It’s rare to find someone with whom you can be your whole true self. Something as simple as a fart can make some people feel so vulnerable and awkward. You know you’ve found “Mr. Right” when he accepts every part of you, even the smelly ones.

Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen?

Craig: Well, making videos and editing are certainly my forte, so I knew I wanted to make him a video. I really love The Carpenters and corny love songs from the 70s. So instantly “(They Long To Be) Close To You” came to mind. I got a bunch of custom items with his face on it: a coffee mug, shower curtain, blanket, poster, etc. and the thought behind it was that even when we’re apart, I still feel “Close to” him. We were home in Florida staying with my family and I told him I wanted him to watch something, so I sat him down at the TV and made him watch. Afterward, I got down on one knee and told him I wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. His mom wanted me to videotape his reaction so I was secretly taping him the whole time. Here is the link of the video I made plus his reaction if you want to watch the video:

We called all our close friends and family to inform them of the exciting news, then drove to Orlando, FL and spent the day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!

Craig: After meeting with multiple jewelers, I decided to go through Brilliant Earth for our engagement rings. Brilliant Earth is the global leader in ethically sourced fine jewelry. The company strives to put the planet and people first, which aligns with our values. They donate 5% of their profits to communities impacted by the jewelry industry where they operate and to programs dedicated to improving human rights and environmental practices in the jewelry industry.

Since there really isn’t an exact playbook for a gay wedding, we decided that our engagement rings would also double as our wedding rings. I didn’t want Scott to wear a ring without me, so when I purposed, I also had a ring for him to put on my finger that I wear. For our wedding instead of rings, we’re going to get engraved watches to give to each other.

What are you most excited about when it comes to your wedding planning?

Scott: I don’t think either of us ever thought we would get married. Whether it be for legal reasons or fear of never finding “Mr. Right,” it’s surreal that in approximately 9 months we will say, “I do.” Thankfully we have the support of the best family and friends in the world. I think we both would agree our favorite part when it comes to wedding planning is the anticipation of our wedding day. The thought of being surrounded by the people that mean the most to us as we start our married life together. It will definitely be a special day and celebration, one that we will look back on for the rest of our lives as we join our families and lives into ONE.
