Justin and Lucas share tips from their personal experience and offer advice on what happens after your big day is done.
Justin and Lucas met on Twitter and hit it off after meeting in person at Bowling Green State University, a true modern-day love story! Their wedding was nothing short of endless love, laughter, and special moments.
Justin and Lucas Camuso-Stall (both he/him/his) are two young professionals living in Toledo, Ohio. Justin is a photographer and videographer for a University and Lucas works in nonprofit public policy / government relations.
Most-likely, being a same-sex couple, or non-binary couple, has proven to be a struggle due to a laundry list of problematic societal ideologies we don’t need to dive into today. It’s important that your wedding day and union be a time to focus on you, your love for one another and how this next step is going to deepen your life-long commitment. Obviously the struggle doesn’t stop here, but, for us, our wedding day was a time to let go of some of the hurt we’ve experienced as two men who love each other. It was a “reincarnation” of sorts into our next chapter; a reflection of our queer culture and celebration of the work that we have all done to earn this right, as well as rights we’re still fighting for today.
For us, not much has changed after the wedding day. We have been together for seven years and also lived together for nearly five of those seven years, making this transition a lot easier. After our wedding, we did purchase our first home which was such a big step for us both – one that we are thoroughly enjoying. And for us, that was a big key – always searching for the next “thing” you both can look forward to, and work towards together. Set goals and make time to enjoy your successes with one another. ”
