Tell us about your proposal: It was an intimate proposal with just us two in his living room in front of the fire place.

Tell us about your ceremony venue and what attracted you to it? We originally were supposed to get married at Duke Chapel, Durham NC. What attracted us to Duke chapel was in our heads it resembles St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. While visiting London, we both fell in love with the Chapel. Unfortunately, because of Covid-19, we could not get married at the Chapel. Thankfully, our reception venue was at The Cloth Mill where we were able to have the ceremony as well. The courtyard was beautiful and decorated very nicely for an intimate ceremony.

Tell us about your wedding! Inspiration behind our day was classic and elegant. I wanted the colors and decor to reflect simplicity, white, black and yellow.

How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? The wedding decor was simple. there were whites,

golds, and grey with white candles and roses on the tables.

What were the florals like in your wedding? The flowers were the accent color for the wedding party. The wedding party wore black and white with yellow flowers for accent.

Let’s talk fashion. How did you choose your wedding day look? I could not find any tuxedo I liked at any of the tuxedo stores. I wanted a unique style jacket and a specific color. I found this amazing designer at Adrian Park Custom DeLouice who was able to bring our ideas to light.

Any wedding favors: In lieu of wedding favors, we donated to The National Kidney Foundation.

How about the wedding invitations & stationery: The wedding invitations were designed by Divine Designs. the background was a black and white tuxedo with white and gold writing which matched our wedding colors.

Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding? We personalized the day by having Brian’s cousin officiate us and the vocalist were both close friends of both families. Some of my favorite parts of the wedding was seeing all of our family and close friends there to celebrate our union given this was the first same sex

marriage for both families. Also, having an amazing vocalist song while we walked down the aisle which was on my must have list.

Tell us about your cake. The cake was made by a friend of Brian’s family. I sent her a photo in hopes of getting only 50% of what I wanted. I did not see the cake until my wedding day. The cake was more then what I expected and looked better than the photo I sent her. I cake was also moist and delicious which was a bonus!

Favorite item on the reception menu: My favorite items on the reception menu was the cake bites, chicken and waffles and the salmon.

What songs did you choose for your wedding ceremony and reception, and why: All of the songs we chose had true meaning behind the lyrics and they were all artist we both enjoy;

Before the entrance of family and wedding party, a live vocalist sang When I first Saw You by Jamie Foxx

Tell us about your wedding photography: Our wedding photographer was Dajuan from In His Image Photography. From our first meeting, I knew I was going to enjoy him as being my photographer. He made sure he captured exactly what we wanted. He is also very personable and efficient. At our first meeting we had such a great time conversing with him that we lost tract of time and was late to my next meeting.

Tell us about your wedding planner: Our wedding planner was Nicole Clayton. She is the owner of our reception venue The Cloth Mill. Since day one, I knew I was going to like her. She pays very close attention to detail and gives her input when needed in order to make your day the most magical day possible. Whenever I would reach out to her she would respond. Since we live in Illinois, my biggest fear was how to successfully plan a wedding from a different state. Nicole made the process so easy and fun. I don’t know what I would have done if I did not have Nicole by my side during the entire planning process. I tell her all the time she is no longer just my wedding planner, but my friend.

Do you have a honeymoon planned? We planned to tour Italy for our honeymoon. Because of Covid-19, that was put on pause. Once travel restrictions are lifted and it is safe to travel internationally again, we will re plan our honeymoon.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day? Any advice for future brides: Just enjoy your day! something is most likely not going to go as planned, but don’t let that affect your day and take away from the reason you guys are getting married.

What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Make sure you listen to one another wants and desires. Don’t lose sight of the fact it is both of your wedding day.

Any final thoughts: My wedding day was magical and I would not change a thing!!!
